When the Mirror Remembers the Trace, on view at MACS MTO from 6 February to 13 September 2026, includes an āyeneh-kārī room that visitors help complete.
The participatory mirror-mosaic room appears alongside works from the museum collection and other interactive environments. The exhibition features Farkhondeh Ahmadzadeh, Rachid Koraïchi, Sanaz Mazinani, Bahman Panahi, and Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, and is curated by Golzar Yousefi.
MACS MTO frames the exhibition within its institutional focus on Sufi art and thought. This archive records that framing as the museum’s curatorial position rather than adopting it as a general classification of Iranian mirrorwork.
The record is significant because mirrorwork is presented as a spatial and participatory practice: visitors encounter it not only as a completed object, but through the continuing act of making.

Completing the Mirror
As part of the exhibition’s closing programme, MACS MTO will hold two 90-minute participatory āyeneh-kārī workshops at 11:00 and 14:00. The sessions introduce Iranian mirrorwork through direct participation and are connected to the mirror-mosaic room that visitors help complete.
The workshops extend the exhibition’s central proposition: mirrorwork is encountered through collective making as well as observation.
